Service Outline

We provide ALPS printer servicing: maintenance, repairs and refurbishing.

  1. Maintenance
    Standard servicing is termed maintenance, which includes cleaning and tuning of the printer to restore smooth operation.
    This is not economical for overseas customers.
  2. Repairs
    Customers can request specific repairs, costs for which vary, thus requiring a final quote after printer arrival.
    Repairs automatically include maintenance.
  3. Refurbishing
    Customers can request a complete overhaul, which is termed refurbishing, at a fixed cost (with exceptions, see conditions).
    Printhead replacement is the most expensive and costly repair, and in this case repair will automatically convert to refurbishment.
    Note the difference pricing for MD-1xxx and MD-5xxx models.

Pricing

Excludes return postage (approximately 20000 JPY to the USA or Europe). Payment by Paypal will necessitate at 3.9% surcharge.

Price for repair depends on scope of work, with maximum charge when printhead replacement is required. In such a case, repair automatically converts to refurbishing.

Model Notes

ALPS Japan no longer repairs or refurbishes printers, nor do any ALPS branches outside of Japan.

Servicing (maintenance), repairs and refurbishing are handled in-house and in partnership with the official ALPS agent Elephant's Rocket (see conditions) as applicable.

Note that only the MD-1xxx and MD-5xxx models are handled by the official agent, these are also the only models available for refurbishing. MD-2xxx and MD-4xxx models cannot be refurbished or otherwise handled by the agent.

MD-2xxx and MD-4xxx servicing (maintenance) and repair services are done in-house. Refurbishing is fortunately not as necessary with these models, as they are far more robust. The main limitation is that a broken printhead cannot be replaced.

On the other hand, these models are cheaper to buy, and can be used with the new 64-bit Windows utility to print even on the latest Windows OS. The utility allows even the earliest MD-2000 model to work with overlay mode. Please see our printer sales for stock information if interested.

Procedure

  1. Contact via Email.
    Please state delivery country and state/city for shipping estimate.
  2. Details of request will be processed via email.
    Can include related requests and purchases.
  3. Servicing quote provided.
    Includes return shipping.
  4. Ship printer to us at customer expense.
    For packaging instructions, see Maintenance.
  5. We handle the servicing request.
  6. Payment via Paypal (preferred) or bank transfer once servicing is completed.
  7. Printer dispatched via arranged shipping method, with documentation as previously agreed to.
    Can be combined with purchase orders to save on postage.

Conditions

Timeliness

Service will normally be completed within 2 weeks of printer arrival. Any expected delay (for example, year-end period) will be communicated in a timely manner.

Warranty

For repairs and refurbishing, warranty is given as follows: one free repair within 6 months for the same issue, and 2 years half-price for any servicing or repairs on the same printer.

Printhead replacement is excluded from the warranty.

The warranty does not cover international or local shipping costs.

For urgent servicing requests, the warranty may not apply in certain cases.

Disclaimer

Neither we, nor Elephant's Rocket, will bear any responsibility for damage arising from shipping between the customer and either ourselves or Elephant's Rocket. This must be covered by insurance, at customer expense, included in the return shipping quote. Likewise, neither we nor Elephant' Rocket will be liable for any business loss or damages resulting from delayed return of a printer due to either shipping damage or other delays during shipping.

Furthermore, neither we, nor Elephant's Rocket, will bear any responsibility for damage not found or not declared by the customer, but later discovered by ourselves or Elephant's Rocket. Such repairs costs will be borne by the customer.

The printer will be shipped with protection from shock as far as is feasible. We include a notice sheet for customers with imporant points regarding printer care before, during, and after use, to extend teh useful life of the printer as much as possible. There are any number of ways a printer can be damaged, and liability is limited to the repairs carried out, with the express exclusion of the printhead which is not covered by our warranty.

Other

For maintenance servicing, if the printer has previously been handled by a different company (except Elephant's Rocket or ourselves) make sure to inform us of this, as the quote and final charges may differ in such a case.
